FAQs

Below is a list of frequently asked questions. We hope these answers provide the information you require, if not then feel free to call or contact us with your questions.

Q. How long do I have to complete each section?

There are no time limits on any particular section. Although the organisers reserve the right to take you off the course if they believe that your health could be compromised. The race will officially finish at 1900. Any team still on the course will be immediately withdrawn from the race.

Q. How much cycling is on road / off road?

The first cycling leg is off road. The other three legs are on road.

Q. What type of bike is recommended?

If you are sharing a bike amongst your team, we would suggest a hybrid bike suitable for on and off road. If you are bringing more than one bike for your team we would suggest a road/racing bike for the on road sections and a mountain/hybrid bike for the off-road section.

Q. What happens if a member of my team drops out before the event?

You can replace them with another member. However, you will need a full complement of four in your team to compete and to be eligible to win.

Q. Are there medical facilities available?

Yes, there will be medical facilities at various check points along the course.

Q. Do I need to be part of a running club to enter?

No, but you will need to be fairly fit and you should be able to run 10km and cycle 20km.

Q. Do I have to raise money for charity?

No - but if you do want to raise money and are still uncertain about which charity to support, our designated charity is Save the Children.

Q. Why Save the Children?

Q. Is there an upper or lower age limit?

There is a lower age limit of 18 years old. There is no upper age limit but each member of the team should be able to run 10km and cycle 20km.

Q. How many teams will be in the race?

The race is limited to 300 teams, so get in early.

Q. When will we receive our team race pack?

One team race pack should be collected at registration on Friday 10 September between 1600 and 2130 at Queens Park Stadium, Inverness. To receive your race pack you must hand in the disclaimer form signed by all four team members. This race pack will contain race and bike numbers, one timing dibber, route maps, participant passports, pasta party and post-race food tickets. All team members must attend one safety briefing on Friday 10 September at either 1700, 1830 or 2030.

Q. Why not stay longer and explore the Highlands?

Q. What footwear should I wear?

Your shoes will get wet and muddy so best not wear a brand-new white pair! Shoes with a very good grip are ideal.

Q. How will we find out our result?

Results will be recorded and posted on the site the next day. Individual prizes are awarded on the day.

Q. What should our team name be?

Your team name can be anything – serious or funny. Please do not post anything too obscene.

Q. How many members should be in each team?

Only teams of FOUR are accepted. Teams can be single sex or mixed.

Q. Where can spectators watch the race?

Should your friends and family want to provide encouragement, spectators are advised that public parking is available at Urquhart Castle, Fort Augustus, Dores and at the Start/Finish. Marshals will not allow unofficial vehicles to access transition points.

Q. Where about is there available parking?

Parking is available at car parks surrounding Queens Park Stadium/ Inverness Sports Centre. Should your friends and family want to provide encouragement, spectators are advised that public parking is available at Urquhart Castle, Fort Augustus, Dores and at the Start/ Finish. Marshals will not allow unofficial vehicles to access transition points.

Q. What time should I get there?

There are three key times you need to be aware of:

  • Registration : Takes place on Friday evening between 1600 and 2130 at Queens Park Stadium
  • Race Briefing: There are three Race Briefing sessions during Registration on the Friday evening, at 1700, 1830 and 2030.
  • Race Start: The Race Starts at 0700 on Saturday morning. You should aim to be at the start area between 0600 and 0615. Buses transporting participants to their running legs will begin boarding at 0600.

Q. How fit do you need to be?

You should be fit enough to be able to run at least 10km without stopping and to be able to cycle 20km. Some sections are harder than others, so make sure you put your fittest team member on the toughest legs.

Q. Refunds

Like all events, entry fees are used to hire land, equipment etc. Therefore, we do not issue refunds.

Q. When should I enter?

As early as possible. The race is likely to sell out, so make sure you apply early.

Q. What will the weather be like?

Your guess is as good as ours! However, you should be prepared for wind, sun and rain. Also remember that you may experience all three throughout the day. Limited shelter is provided at some transitions so please ensure you come prepared for all weathers.

Q. How will we get between stages?

There will be transport available to take you to and from the stages. Marshals will not allow unofficial vehicles to access transition points.

Q. Where can I stay?

There are a number of hotels and guest houses in and around Inverness that would be suitable for accommodation. Find out more on our 'Getting There' page.
